A very important component of stuttering therapy is communicating with and teaching parents. They are the student’s biggest advocate and can have a significant impact on progress. We want them on our team!
That said, it’s not an easy road for them to navigate. Here are some resources that I’ve found over the years:
1. The Stuttering Foundation
The Stuttering Foundation offers a free page filled with incredible resources. They have videos, handouts, brochures, and more! The “What Happens in Therapy” and “Tips for Parents” handouts are great!
2. National Stuttering Association
The National Stuttering Association also has an amazing resource page for parents. They have resources for Stuttering 101, Stuttering Therapy, Phases of Stuttering, How to Support My Child, and Advice for Challenging Situations.
3. Friends Who Stutter
Friends Who Stutter offers videos and links to blog posts on their “For Parents” page.
4. StutterTalk Podcast
StutterTalk is a podcast that talks about stuttering. They interview people who stutter, and it’s a great way for parents to learn more!
5. Stuttering Therapy Resources Bullying Workbook
This workbook isn’t free, but it is such a great resource.
It’s so good that I’ve even re-purposed it to use with a student who was getting bullied for other reasons.
And that’s a wrap! I hope you were able to find some helpful resources for your parents!

Bonus Tip: If you’re struggling to answer parents’ questions, Chapter 10 of the School-Age Stuttering Therapy guide includes GREAT sample questions and answers.

Thank you for posting about stuttering resources! We are heading into National Stuttering Awareness Week May 6-13), so it’s great timing!
Hope you are doing well and enjoying the transition to “almost summer!”
